The Sirens Were All Inside

This afternoon, on my way to Chipotle, all the tornado sirens in the downtown area went off. I guess they were testing them. No one seemed to notice. Everyone on the street kept talking, going on with their day like nothing was happening. I had to seriously consider that maybe the sirens were in my head. It was very Twilight Zone. To be honest, I really don't think I'd be surprised if tornado sirens went off inside my head. Par for the course, it would seem.

Columbia is weird. You know that you've been living in Michigan too long when Columbia, in the summer time even, feels like a bustling metropolis. I'm still adjusting to seeing people walking down the streets, and having to talk to more than one homeless person a day.

I feel like an anonymous stranger, a drifter who is just passing through. I am a ghost, the echo of a whispered secret.

Didn't you know that tornado sirens are supposed to be tested the first Wendsday of every month. People didn't think it was weird because it wasn't weird. Where are you that they aren't testing their tornado sirens? Oh yeah, Michigan, where they are no tornados.

that needs another question mark and one of those "they"s should be a "there" and I think I spelled Wendsday wrong...
