So Hot Right Now

Here's a piece (via Phillip Sherburne) from the Village Voice that examines this whole celebrity DJ thing from the perspective of the DJ, rather than the perspective of "Um... This is weird." Can you believe they actually have a rule against beatmatching at MisShapes? I was going to try and go when I'm in New York this March (really, to see if Leigh is as hot in person as everyone says she is), but fuck that! I mean, I know they can't beat match but I figured that was just because they didn't know any better or they just didn't care. But a whole rule against it? And no techno!? These kids need a slap in the head. Fuck the MisShapes, I'm going to Caps&Jones instead.

As a side note, I should say that I'm not against celebrity DJs, but rather DJs that suck. For some great star studded mixing, check out James Murphy's Live Set on Big Day Out in the UK. It's sloppy at points, but it can be assumed that he's wasted, and the cheering of all the crowd totally makes up for it. This is one to bump in your living room, kids.
