Burial – Untrue

I’ve never really liked Dubstep. It’s hard for me to dileniate the genre, but my suspiscions are that it kind of evolved from Drum&Bass and Ragga. Imagine a fork in the road, Grime went one way (hyperactive explosive) and Dubstep went the other (psychedelic, lurching, shout outs to King Tubby). None of the genres I’ve mentioned there have ever held my attention for more than 5 minutes, but still, goddamn this Burial record is good. I listened to it on two different flights last week, and had a hard time sitting still. The track “Archangel” makes my stomach and chest feel weird, like my lungs are about to vomit carbon dioxide. Lots of fucking weird vocals and great sweeping melancholy chord progressions. It’s perfect for a rainy Monday morning (like this one).

100 Ways To Say I Love You

Some of it is funny, some of it is moribund. All of it is entertaining.
