I’ve been super into Mighty Mouse since I heard their remix of Bent’s “Always” last summer. They make this amazing, cinematic synth-disco, and they’re definitely among my favorite producers out there right now. They’ve been remarkably prolific recently, with remixes, EPs and DJ mixes popping up all over the place. This remix of Ali Love’s new single is just one of the most recent ones, but check out their Soundcloud page to stream and download tons more, including their awesome Beyonce remix, their recent mix for Ministry Of Sound and many other tracks. Their new EP, Song With No Word, just started streaming on their Myspace page, and they say that they plan to give it away to their followers on Twitter, so keep your eyes open for that too.

This one’s been on repeat all week. The song below is the lead single and also probably my favorite. For some reason, I’d only heard the Aeroplane remix of this in advance of the album’s release. While that one is good, ain’t no body touching the original. Heat! The whole album is dope though, so go get it.

Owen Pallett (formerly Final Fantasy) is another long time favorite of mine, and his new album (out last Tuesday) has been on repeat lately. While his earlier work was more sparsely arranged, many of these tracks are really dense and feature plenty of complex orchestration as well as electronic flourishes. I think it’s his voice, though, that really keeps me coming back. I’m going to post some dance music here soon, I promise, just let me listen to this song one more time…

P. Jones (of the duo Caps & Jones) has been a favorite DJ of mine for years and years, and it’s a rare treat to hear anything from him these days, since he split for the west coast a couple years back to get his hippie on. His newest mix, a selection of mellower tracks that skew to the indie side of the spectrum, is exactly what I always want to listen to at this time of year. I’ll let him do the rest of the talking (er, um, typing):
I thoroughly enjoyed the first Splendid Moments mix and it went wood on the internet to boot, so I made another: another year in California, another farm in the mountains, another hazy, gazy, lazy mix of sensitive whiteboy daydream music. This year I was even less focused on current releases as a result of an increasingly hippie lifestyle and my reliance on Pitchfork’s Best New Music picks is embarassingly evident but I’m happy to report that the ends in this case justify the means. There really are some splendid moments, in the songs themselves which I obviously can’t claim credit for, and also in the transitions. It flows, baby. There’s also a misstep or two, but 2009 was a wabi sabi sort of year so roll with it.
Like SM2008, the mix skews toward the easy listening end of the spectrum. There’s nary a club banger in sight, probably owing to the fact that I didn’t set foot in a club all year. I did, however, play a party in the barn depicted on the “cover.” The mix is available as a .zip of individual tracks or a single long .mp3 to suit your digital lifestyle.
