That People Shut The Fuck Up About Europe

Specifically, the electro/nu-rave/technodirtyomghouse scene. Yeah, ok, Ed Banger, blah blah. Listen up kids, Klaxons suck. They're awful. As someone who's heard their shit and seen them live, I can honestly tell you that there is nothing good about anything they've ever done. Those pop song covers they do are not funny or ironic or "totally mindblowing." They're awful. The remixes that people did of their tracks are kind of alright. That one by Erol Alkan is hot. More ranting after the jump...

Alot of the Ed Banger releases are good. I like them, I'll play them at parties or on my headphones when I'm on the train. The artists themselves seem to be pretty rad people who have some crazy ideas in regards to electronic music. But there are these hipsters and bloggers (I really like you Discobelle, but you're guilty of this too) who have decided that this music is now the only genre "hip" enough to listen to, and they dickride the producers on massive levels. It's as if they're trying to turn Ed Banger in 2007 into what Matador was in 2004. I think the problem here is that hipsters in Brooklyn got their mind blown a few months ago because they got on Google and found out that there's a whole nother group of hipsters in Paris who are doing completely different shit from them. The 21 year old dudes who's parents pay for their Bedford Ave apartments, who were still trying to sound like The Rapture and having a contest to see who could go the longest without showering, freaked out because there's French kids on youtube who dress different from them and spend their spare time bootlegging old Daft Punk shows. You know what though? You don't have to hype up every single Ed Banger release on your shitty mp3 blog. You're not a tastemaker because you have soulseek and went to a website and signed up for "i'msofuckinghip.blogspot.com." You know what else? Para One is kind of ridiculous. Like, dude comes out with a remix every three days and half of that shit is straight unlistenable. I'm on the train and I'm trying to find the beat but he's got about 50 vocal samples chopped up and all going at the same time, and it makes me want to hit him in the face with his MIDI controller. I want to hear music for dancing, not for standing around slamming cans of sparks and trying to figure out which girl in the club is coked up enough to blow me in the bathroom. All you internet gossip dudes and mp3 bloggers need to remove Dave Taylor's dick from your mouths (Dave Taylor is totally rad, by the way) and fucking chill out with all of this. Also, if you are competing in an iPod battle, don't play Daft Punk twice in a row. Actually, if you're competing in an iPod battle and you don't play at least one hip hop track you're a fucking retard, and you need to go back to your parents house in the midwest. Tell them to get out their old Commodores LPs and play that shit for you. Take notes, and appreciate how awesome Lionel Richie's hair used to be. That should straighten you out.

Clean Sheets on the Bed

Nevermind the reasons they suddenly needed to be washed, nor the $3 in quarters (hard to find in the change dish!) it took to clean them. It just feels nice.

"She'll be calling you Kelly
When your name is Tommy"

Kells continues to be on an incredible roll. TI's verse is plenty hot too.

The Mad Decent Podcast

So Diplo has been running this Mad Decent Podcast for a minute now. It updates about every 6-8 weeks, and toes the line between edutainment (taking genres like Baltimore Club, Kuduro, Weird Dominican Reggaeton, Old Mixshows from the 80s, et al, and putting them on blast for the masses), and breaking new heat. The most recent installment, which was released over the weekend, goes in the latter category. It's basically Diplo doing a live mix for about an hour, playing a bunch of new remixes and (presumably) staples from his current live set.

I have to say, even after several hiatuses to do things like shoot documentaries, record and produce new artists, and hang out in the bush with Aboriginies, Wes still has a way of surprising me. Not only does he drop M83's "Run Into Flowers (Jackson's Midnight Fuck Remix)," (Really, it's my fault for assuming the kid wasn't up on that), but he also got me to shake my ass to a Fergie track (I mean come on!) on the L train before I'd even had any coffee.

Revisiting "Africa" by Toto.

First, read this about the way they recorded the drums for the song, then go back and listen to Africa and think about how awesome the drum parts are.

When you're done with that, think about how amazing that break sounds with Ghostface over it.

Ripping People Off... Blatantly.

Just because Gawker did it, (and they ripped it off from McSweeney's,) doesn't mean that you can't steal their idea for the purpose of writing smug notes to your friends via the internet.
