![]() There's a lot of Google Street View blogs out there, but here Jon Rafman compiles some of the greatest hits, and ads a nice bit of commentary as well. Click the link for more hypnotic images, like the one above. The Nine Eyes Of Google (Art Fag City) Labels: Photo, The Internet 7.31.2009
Managed Expectations is a regular Friday feature on The Awl, and at first I felt awkward about reading it because it lampoons Brooklyn so accurately that it makes me simultaneously love the place where I live and also feel a bit embarrassed for the borough (it hits especially close to home since I moved to Carroll Gardens two months back). But now the main character is in Portland on vacation, and that's just fine because I have absolutely no qualms about making fun of the west coast. People who know me know that I spend a lot of time reading blogs at work when I should be working. I used to be religious about Gawker (a habbit that stemmed from a desire I had a while back to actually be in the media industry), but since the departure of pretty much the only people there who actually know how to write (including my interweb crush Emily Gould), that shit has gotten real fucking boring! No need to panic though, because Gawker's sister blog Jezebel has picked up the torch without missing a beat. Jezebel is designed to be coverage of fashion and celebrity gossip from a feminist's perspective, but they wind up pretty much running the entire gamut of things vagina related, and even though I don't own a vagina, their existence and the issues that surround that are pretty core to my set of interests. One of their new features is called "Cover Lies" (a play on the industry jargon "Cover Lines" for the not nerdy), and it's pretty hilarious. Check it out for yourself. Just like the regular Guardian (British spellings and all), but slightly more focused on US news without giving up any of the global coverage the Guardian is known for. Not bad at all. Guardian America Labels: Reading, The Internet 10.08.2007
I have this thing for watching conspiracy theory documentaries online lately. I don't believe much of the information they present, but I stumbled across this gem last night and it's kind of amazing. Who knew Dan Aykroyd was so up on his alien game? Dude goes for a straight hour and a half just spouting knowledge. When I watched it I suddenly got really scared I was gonna be abducted by aliens. Up to the minute blog posts about politics and Buffalo pro sports from my friend Will Caps. Always a good read. So we need a roommate, and after a couple weeks of dragging our feet, passing the buck and doing nothing about it, we've finally put an ad on Craigslist to figure out who our new friend will be. I had an idea of how this works, since I've done it twice to find housing myself. However, this is my first experience helming the whole operation, and man is it crazy. We're not 24 hours into the whole thing and so far we've got 97 emails. I like to think that this is partly because it was an excellently penned ad on my part. Basically, at this point I'm just repeating the mantra "Do not pick a cute girl. Do not pick a cute girl." Labels: misc., New York, The Internet 9.26.2007
This is a little comic that popped up a while ago. The concept is simple: Clip Art + Anachronism + Political Incorrectness = Hilarity. Today's sucks, but take a stroll through the archives and you'll see what I mean. I've also got like, three of their t-shirts on my list. Married To The Sea Labels: The Internet 6.26.2007
Let's be honest, The Maneater has never been very good. It was always a huge joke when compared to other college papers, especially considering that this was Missouri's paper and should have been like the New York Times of college papers. Even when I worked there, we kind of sucked. But we were still a hell of a lot better than these jokers now. I don't want to read about whatever boring shit is happening in Columbia, MO right now, however I do occaisionally like to go back and look at old assignments I shot for them. In order to do this, I need to access their website (something that every single media outlet should have at this point, no matter if it's Time or a junior high school yearbook). Too bad the thing has been shut down since class got out. Way to go dudes. Put down your bong and get back to work. The Maneater Online Labels: Photo, The Internet 6.05.2007
...you know, so that regular blogging may resume. I can't really upload mp3s from work, and those are the things that I recommend the most. Let's be real here, mp3s, whether it is listening to them, acquiring them, organizing them or thinking about them, take up 85% of my day. The other 15% is sleep. Labels: misc., The Internet 6.04.2007
Lessons in Virtual Tour Photography This electronic book (ebook, if you will) came out a couple years ago and I just randomly thought of it this morning while pretending to be working. Bachelder basically wrote a novel (I believe the story is autobiographical) in the form of an instruction manual. Thus, all of the statements in the book are in the form of commands. Weird at first, but fun after some adjustment. Have you ever read an ebook before? It's tough to get used to it. When this came out I decided I hated reading it in PDF format, so I printed all two hundred and something pages out on the printer at The Maneater's office. My boss got really mad at me for doing that. Labels: Reading, The Internet |
